‘Movement is what we are, not something we do.’ — Emilie Conrad

Somatic movement refers to movement practices that focus on the internal experience of the body, rather than just the external appearance or performance. The word "somatic" comes from the Greek word soma, meaning "the living body experienced from within."

What is somatic movement?

We cultivate internal focus. We place attention on bodily sensations, breath, subtle, soft movements and stillness. Movements are gentle and intuitive, mindful, and adaptable to your needs in the moment.

We develop and notice states of self-regulation. We can notice and inquire into places of tension and holding in our body, allow them to release and relax, and develop the capacity to support emotional healing.

We don’t strive to make a shape or posture. We are not focussing on "performance". We are experiencing and exploring, becoming somanauts.
